The life of a mom or busy woman can sometimes be exhausting and overwhelming – even on a good day! – so when I choose books to read I usually choose something to make me laugh, inspire me, or quiet the mind.
Here is a list of several books that either tickled my funny bone or made me sigh with relief that I wasn’t alone in this thing called parenting. So find a comfy chair, grab some coffee, or a glass of wine, and settle in for some “me” time.
Happy reading!
Do Your Laundry Or You’ll Die Alone: Advice your mom would give you if she thought you were listening by Becky Blades:
A book born from a goodbye email to her daughter before she leaves for college. This book is filled with the kind of advice – 270 wise and witty golden nuggets to be exact – that takes a lifetime to procure and a mother’s love to create. I nodded my head with each one. Becky’s gorgeous mixed-media illustrations and life lessons make this a book to cherish and one you will reach for over and over again. A must for any young woman going off to college or into the world. You can find Do Your Laundry on amazon.
I Just Want To Be Alone by Jen of People I Want to Punch in the Throat and Some Super Cool Lady Writers:
Is the follow-up to the best-selling anthology I Just Want To Pee Alone. That’s right, the talented bloggers and writers are back making us laugh and spilling the dirt on what they want most – to be alone! What I loved about this book is the message that even when you love your spouse to the moon and back (or want to throttle them) we all need some precious time alone to shut down the engines and gather our sanity. Who among us hasn’t had to hide in the bathroom, or closet, just to have a few moments of peace and quiet? I know I have. You can find I Just Want To Pee Alone on amazon.
Suburban Haiku: Poetic Dispatches from Behind the Picket Fence by Peyton Price:
When I think of haiku’s I am reminded of english class, and the struggle to make sense in just 17 syllables – don’t kid yourself, it’s hard! But Peyton Price makes haikus fun. I’ve been following Suburban Haiku’s clever tweets and Facebook updates for the last few years, enjoying the sometimes hilarious, sometimes snarky, though always spot-on quips, as she shares her life and observations as a mom in the ‘burbs in just a few words. This book is an absolute delight and a must read for anyone who enjoys a clever read. You can find Peyton’s book on amazon.
The Mother Of All Meltdowns: Real stories of moms’ finest (worst, completely awful) moments by Crystal Ponti and a Bunch of Hot Mamas Losing Their Cool: What mom alive hasn’t lost her cool at some time? As a woman and mom who has had to give herself a time-out on more than one occasion, it was a relief to know I’m not alone. The stories are written by moms who have been there, survived that, and bring you along for the ride. You’ll laugh, you’ll cry, you’ll buy one for a friend. Find The Mother Of All Meltdowns on amazon.
“You have lipstick on your teeth” and other things you’ll only hear from you friends In The Powder Room edited by Leslie Marinelli:
From the talented writers and bloggers of the telling-it-like-it-is, no holds barred – In ThePowderRoom.com, is a collection of smart, sassy essays about motherhood, womanhood, and everything in between, that had me laughing the whole way on a cross country flight, which is no easy feat since I’m terrified of flying! I had to tilt the book just so from my fellow passengers, as a few titles brazenly dropped the v-bomb (lady-bits!), lest they think I was reading a medical journal, or worse, porn. Find You Have Lipstick On Your Teeth on amazon.
